Our Story
In 2022, I became a Mom to my sweet little boy and my priorities quickly shifted. I was ready to hang up my chef jacket after 11 years of working in the industry. Time was the most important thing to me now and my passion for good food grew even stronger as I began cooking for my little one. Some of my favourite memories of Motherhood so far have been creating in the kitchen and getting our hands dirty in the garden together. These years do truly go by too fast and it is so important to me not to miss them. My family adores really delicious bread and ultimately they are the ones who inspired me to share my bread with the community, neighbours, friends and loved ones. Time and good food. Alas, Butter Bakes was born. We hope by sharing our handcrafted breads with you, that you too will have more time and memories created around the table with loved ones.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring good quality, small-batch bread and baked goods made with simple, honest ingredients to peoples tables. The flour and grain used in our bakery is all organically grown in Southern Alberta. The majority of the flour we use is stone-milled which leaves much of the grain intact, making it more nutritious. We purchase our flour from The Scottish Mill, located in De Winton, Alberta, who source the grain from Alberta farmers who are committed to sustainable and organic farming practices. The slow fermentation process of our bread, along with the flour we use, being higher in nutrients and free of glyphosates, make it highly digestible for those even with gluten sensitivities. We utilize butter, eggs and milk in our products and avoid seed oils, shortenings and products with gums or stabilizers.
